Peromnes Job Grading Overview
Peromnes is a Job Grading system mostly used in South Africa. It has been widely used since the early eighties and can be described as a point based rating system. There are eight factors namely:

  1. Problem Solving
  2. Consequences of error judgement
  3. Pressure of work
  4. Knowledge
  5. Job impact
  6. Comprehension
  7. Educational qualifications
  8. Subsequent training and experience
Each of the factors above are divided into nine respective and progressive definitions. This is known as the Peromnes Job Rating Scale chart. They range numerically from 0 to 36, so that when a job is evaluated against each of the eight factors a numeric value can be assigned to the description which best describe the nature of the job on the particular factor. On completion the points are added up to return a result called Rated Points.

Although more flexible than Patterson, Peromnes is not an easy rating system and requires high level skill and understanding for successful implementation. Tremendis Learning uses an online scoring system which reduces bias and assists HR personnel in asking the right questions to grade each job.

The Peromnes Grading System has 21 respective grades. (1982 Revision)

The Peromnes system does not necessarily require a written job description for evaluation. It is however of vital importance that a panel with carefully selected panelists grade the job. Tremendis Learning set available a Job Grading facilitator to sit with the panel to assist the evaluation process. The panel normally consists of a Human Resources representative, Tremendis Learning facilitator, the direct superior for the specific role and a higher level person from either finance, sales or operations. It is not advised that the job-holder attends the evaluation session as this creates potential unfairness and creates a sense of "Fighting for a point".
